Phase 2: May - June 1999

It is necessary to "move mountains" on the steep hillslope - almost entirely with manual labour. We need a lot of faith in our ultimate goal in order to turn our vision into reality, stone by stone.

The slope has to be excavated for access and other roads and the roads have to be surfaced. It is especially important to lay a drainage system for the rainy season.About 25 Tamil workers are now employed here for at least a year.The project provides a living for 100 people and becomes the largest and most important employer in the region.

Finally, in the middle of June 1999, the most important preparations have been completed, so that the project director, Mr. Bandula, and the former owner of the land, Mr. Sunil, can lay the foundation stone for the first children's home.
